Bangladesh is an agricultural country. About 40 percent of the country's total population is directly and a large part indirectly dependent on agriculture. The role of agriculture is food security, economic growth, poverty alleviation and employment generation is immense. The natural features of Bangladesh, such as riverine terrain, fertile soil and seasonal rainfall, have made agriculture favorable. Due to this, there is an environment suitable for cultivating rice, wheat, jute, pulse, vegetables and various fruits. Agriculture is not only a sector of this economy , but it is also deeply intertwined with our culture, history and tradition.
The mainstay of Bangladesh's agricultural system is rice cultivation. The three seasonal rice varieties boro, aman and aush are important as the main food grains of the country. Along with rice, agricultural products such as wheat , maize, potato. mustard, jute, pulse, vegetables ,brinjal , tamato, radish ctc.are also widely cultivated . Shrimp and salt farming in the southern region, corn and grain production in the northern region, and fruit and vegetable farming in the central region are particularly noteworthy.
Currently, the use of modern technology and scientific farming methods has increased in the agricultural sector of Bangladesh. Farmers are getting more yields through the use of improved seeds, modern irrigation systems, fertilizers and pesticides. The use of tractors, power tillers, harvesters, and seeders in agricultural work is saving time and labor. Farmers are getting weather forecasts, market prices, and agricultural advice quickly through the use of information technology. However, disasters such as drought, heavy rain, floods, cyclones, etc. due to climate change are a big challenge for agriculture.
