The Great Catapult was invented by Greeks on the island of Sicily by Dionysius The Elder of Syracuse in the year 400 A.D. @ This invention was so great that it was used for many many many many many many years Oh Man Was this WEAPON a good little* thing the reason for this weapon was because of a great idea inspired by the unique crossbow and the crossbows idea came from a thought to modify a bow To be honest in my opinion These weapons seem to be in a BIG Triangle cycle! The bow goes up and down then the crossbow goes straight then the catapult goes far. But what separates the catapult from the Crossbow and the Bow is That the catapult uses rocks and the Crossbow and bow use Arrows and the catapult is used to strike towers or multiple enemy's like an explosion while the Crossbow and the Bow are used to target single enemies 1 at a time? The Catapult was used for years on end, But like everything that exists or is brought into existence.
