Some people say voluntary work is first to polish their image, but I think it is more than that. By helping people in need, individuals can gain respect from them, thus build a sense of community. Another myth is that only those with financial accomplishment or improved, stable social standing would donate money or help others. However, those elements should not stop us from lending a hand to our neighbours or our fellow citizens As long as we have compassion, empathy and altruism, goodwill we can serve as volunteers through small actions, such as donating clothing or serving free food in a soup kitchen for the impoverished. Besides helping disadvantaged people, helping our environment by collecting rubbish and cleaning the road is also part of being a volunteer. It is possible to find homeless people, for example, even on our doorsteps in the wealthiest of cities. Even though we have no obligation to engage in volunteering work, we still should do it voluntarily so as to help build a better world - a world where no one dies from a curable disease due to lack of vaccine, where there is no pollution, no famine, no epidemic, and no sorrow.
