The diagrams compare the layout of Central Library 20 years ago and today.

Overall, the library has become much more self-service and spacious, with the enquiry desk replaced by self-service machines and all the furniture in the central hall removed. It is also clear that although all rooms have been repurposed, the basic layout (four rooms in each corner with a cross-shaped shared space) has been retained.

On the left, the former room for CDs, videos and computer games has been enlarged and converted into an area for children's fiction books, with two sofas added for storytelling. The previous reading room for newspapers and magazines has been transformed into a computer room, with its access to the shared space repositioned.

On the right, the upper corner room previously used for children's books now functions as a lecture hall, while its size and entrance have remained unchanged. Meanwhile, the previous open service area in the lower right corner, which included an enquiry desk for tickets and book returns, has been converted into a cafe, whose door faces the entrance hall.

Turning to the cross-shaped shared space, the left wing, which was used for adult fiction books, now is dedicated to reference books. The right wing, which used to be an area for adult non-fiction books, now serves as an area for adult fiction and self-service facilities, including an information desk and three self-service machines. In the central hall, all the tables and chairs have been cleared while the entrance has remained unchanged.
