That the Adhere database is of better quality. These questions resurfaced today following the tabling in Parliament of CAG performance audit report of the UIDAI. The UIDAI is the government body which issues the 12 digit identification number which is matched with the relevant biometrics. The digital identity platform, which has been branded Adhere, now covers 129.04 core people. UIDAI has had to cancel more than 4.75 lakh Adheres for being duplicate. Sometimes, different Adheres with the same biometric data have been issued. While some corrections have been undertaken, CAG observed that the database still has faulty Adheres that have already been issued. CAG performance audit report details other flaws too in the database. The takeaway from the performance audit is that the Adhere database may not have the quality needed to be the gold standard for authenticating the electoral rolls. Therefore, the Election Commission needs to be cautious in using the Adhere database to authenticate the existing voter database.
