The best way to learn how to type at high speeds is, first and foremost, to practice regularly.
While it may be good to practice typing the most common words, one should not underestimate the value of repetitive single-key hunting. These are the types of typing lessons that look like so:
fr fr fe fe fw fw fq fq ju ju ji ji jo jo jp jp
and so on.
It may seem like a hassle to constantly look for these keys (not literally with your eyes) in the back of your mind, but eventually, the hassle will turn into nothing as you will find that you will know where the exact positions of the keys are.
In learning how to touch-type, you have to value accuracy over speed. Which would you prefer - 1) typing many wrong keys at a high speed, only to have to click the Backspace multiple times and reduce your WPM anyway, or 2) typing keys at a constant pace and steadily increasing your speed along with accuracy? There are no shortcuts to learning how to type more quickly and efficiently. It takes proper and conscious practice.
When first learning a new skill, you have to focus intently on learning the skill. Think of learning only the skill for 10-20 minutes. Then you can do whatever you want after this interval before coming back to practice again. Consider implementing this technique of "practice and rest" in everything you try to learn, including studying and working out. It will help you in all aspects of life.
The concept that one needs 10,000 hours to learn a new skill applies to typing as well. It is true that 10,000 hours of anything can seem like torture. However, if you add plenty of rest intervals in between the time needed to learn something effectively, it will become more manageable.
